stepping and singing
This weekend marks the most IMPORTANT weekend EVER at Samford University, my beloved alma mater. More important than sports, academics, and other obligations. It is the ultimate extra-curricular.
Students practice for weeks...hours and hours each day to perfect a 6-ish minute long themed performance.
We risk failing tests and waiting until the last minute to write papers because of this event.
We dress in odd costumes and extreme stage makeup and chant on the quad before each performance.
We dance and sing in front of TONS of people.
We watch each group perform a zillion times after all the dress rehearsals and weekend performances, but still love it every time.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's STEP SING!!! This is the first year I have not been able to attend this legendary event, and I am very sad about this. Luckily I have been a participant AND an audience member while in college, so I have had my fair share of step sing experience.
I WILL BE THERE IN SPIRIT! LET'S GO AOPI! TWIRK IT! If you don't know what that means, it is a much better way to say "work it". Allison and I have started a trend with this word, and I'm glad to see that this trend is still going strong!
This photo is AOPI's genie step sing performance in 2010--directed and choreographed by the lovely Allison Smith and Amelia Davis!
Don't forget your step sing faces!
